Finca Oropendola is a private nature reserve on the slopes of the Turrialba volcano in Costa Rica. It consists of secondary and primary rainforest and is situated near a small community at an elevation of 1100 meters above sea level. We purchased Finca Oropendola in the spring of 2008 with the aim to turn it into a biodiversity farm. Otherwise, a pig farmer might have bought the property to house his livestock. Now, the purpose of Finca Oropendola is to protect the rainforest and its ecosystem. Our conservation philosophy is inspired by the principle of 'action by non-action.'
